2020 Guatemala Field Engagement

March 2-6, 2020

World Council participants should plan to arrive in country on Monday, March 2. We will visit credit unions in the field on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 3-4) to observe their communities, learn about their lending practices and hear more about their challenges. We will do a two-day workshop in Guatemala City with credit union CEOs and loan officers on Thursday and Friday (March 5-6). The workshop framework will include an interactive forum in which visitors and Guatemalan hosts pair up to present and compare methodologies and lessons.

Daily Schedule

Monday, March 2: Arrival into Guatemala City, Guatemala La Aurora Int. Airport (GUA). Barceló has a free airport shuttle and will have our group itineraries.
  • Check in to the Hotel Barceló and ask for the special World Council daily rate of USD $85 plus tax. We will schedule a welcome dinner at the hotel at 6:30 pm local time.

March 3 & 4: Credit union field visits are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. After breakfast at the hotel each morning, World Council will provide transportation and translation services for our Guatemalan credit union tours. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

March 5 & 6, 2020: We will close out the visit with a two-day workshop with credit union CEOs & loan officers. After breakfast at the hotel, World Council will provide transportation and translation services for our workshop and panel discussions. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

Saturday, March 7, 2020: Departure for home. Barceló has a free airport shuttle and will have our group itineraries.

For budgeting purposes, please plan on:

  • paying your round-trip airfare from your location to Guatemala City, Guatemala;
  • your hotel costs for the five nights (March 2-7); Hotel Barceló, Guatemala City;
  • $2,000 per person to World Council for your share of group costs for meals, local transportation and translation as well as support for the program.

Note: No Visa is needed to travel to Guatemala from the United States or Canada. Other countries should check with their local Guatemalan Embassy or Consulate.
