Offer Hope

Help the Kids

In Kenya, over one-million children have lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic.

Welcome to the Busia Compassionate Centre
Over the last decade, the Busia Compassionate Centre, an orphanage in rural western Kenya, has offered hope to orphans and foster children who face extreme poverty and limited resources. Their orphanage facility is funded by the global credit union movement and we continue to work on projects in the Spring of 2018 and beyond.

Support a Busia Fund and Change a Child's Life.

General Fund

Feed & Clothe the Kids

Our general fund provides continual support to the Busia Compassionate Centre annually, to ensure the orphans and the staff have the bare essentials to keep day to day life comfortable.

FUND GOAL: $16,000
Let's Hit the Goal!
Build a Wall for Busia Fund

Secure the Perimeter

Girls and young women have been harassed by men who trespass on the Busia Centre property. We need a wall to keep them out.

Threats from dangerous snakes coming into the compound are also a real threat. If we hit our goal, we can begin construction as early as the start of 2019.

FUND GOAL: $50,000

Create Better Lives for the Busia Orphans.

The greatest needs at Busia Compassionate Centre are continuing food and nutrition support and funding scholarships to put the children through school.

In 2007, World Council of Credit Unions started working with Busia Compassionate Centre aimed at mitigating the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in western Kenya. One of the program's goals was to provide educational grants to children of HIV/AIDS-affected households through the area's savings and credit cooperatives (SACCOs), or credit unions.

By initially building a foundation to meet the orphanage's basic needs such as food, water, and shelter, World Council has continued to support the Centre's food, scholarships and maintenance of the physical facility.  Sometimes specific project needs come along.

After harassment from young men trying to break into the girls’ dormitory, and threats from snakes coming into the compound from the adjacent sugar cane fields, we now run a campaign to build a wall enclosure for the buildings compound.

Our Work

2018 Update

The World Council of Credit Unions and Worldwide Foundation volunteers this spring are planting gardens including bananas and other fruit trees, improving the orphanage kitchen and play areas and many other projects that provide the love and care needed to give the children food security, a safe home and a sense of family and financial inclusion – many for the first time in their lives.
